At Scandi Candy, we’ve recently received many questions from our U.S. customers about tariffs, de minimis rules, and FDA requirements. To make things simple, we want to give you a clear overview of how it all works – and why you don’t need to worry when shopping with us.

Tariffs & De Minimis Rules

Until recently, shipments under $800 could enter the United States duty-free under the de minimis threshold. However, as of August 29, 2025, the U.S. has suspended the de minimis exemption for all countries.

This means:

• All shipments, regardless of value, now go through standard customs procedures.

• Duties and fees may apply even to small orders under $800.

At Scandi Candy, we make sure every order complies with current U.S. regulations, so your package arrives safely and without surprises.

FDA Prior Notice

Because candy is classified as a food product, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires something called a Prior Notice for every shipment. This notice must be submitted before the goods leave for the U.S. – otherwise, the package could be delayed or stopped. Don’t worry, though: we handle this process for you automatically.
